Shad has existing scholarships that are accessible to graduates of specialized STEAM-based programs. Programs such as ours here at Verna J. Kirkness Education Foundation, where we aim to increase the number of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students enrolling in higher education by connecting high school students to academic role models at Canadian universities.
Shad’s month-long educational programs in entrepreneurship and STEAM are for students in Grades 10 and 11. Students learn about interesting fields of study while working with mentors and like-minded peers at university campuses across Canada.
Each year, Shad offers two full scholarships to available to Kirkness Scholars in grade 11 to attend their program (including travel, accommodation, food, and program fees). The two students awarded this scholarship will be invited to attend the Shad program in July of the same year. All students who completed the VJKF Program (and are currently in grade 11) are eligible. Students will be asked to confirm they are available to attend after they've completed the VJKF program and have confirmed they have parental permission to apply.
